Abstract
A new auto-correlation method for measurement of weak optical short pulses by using a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror is proposed and demonstrated. Measurement sensitivity of 0.05(mW)2 (peak power×average power) for picosecond pulses is achieved. In this paper we propose a new auto-correlation approach suitable for such weak pulses which employs a nonlinear amplifying optical loop mirror (NALM). The small signal transmission characteristics of the NALM takes the place of the function of a SHG crystal in a conventional autocorrelator
