Abstract
The new cable systems are always installed in the field and imperfect assembling of cable accessories could result in the installation defects. The after-laying test is important to certify a good start of the lifetime of the XLPE cable system due to the characteristic of the XLPE insulation which is very sensitive to the PD activity. In this study, the artificial defect that represents PD situation is observed by electric field simulation and different energizing and PD detection methods. Several measurement issues related to the un-conventional PD measurement are also investigated. The investigation of all these important factors is performed to provide a better understanding and performance of PD detection in after-laying test of HV cable system.
