Abstract
Multicarrier modulation has been considered as a solution to the frequency selective fading problem in high speed wireless LAN. With multicarrier modulation, high efficiency channel utilization is enabled by dynamic carrier assignment according to the demand of each terminal. Conventionally in FTDMA/DA, central station is used to assign carriers dynamically to terminals. However the system becomes large and lacks flexibility. Thus in this paper we propose a carrier assignment system without a central station, M-CSMA/RCA (multi-carrier sense multiple access with random pulse carrier assignment). In a decentralized multicarrier wireless LAN, this system can avoid packet collision by sending random pulses before transmission. This system can achieve almost the same performance against conventional centralized FTDMA/DA system in terms of delay and throughput
