Abstract
Corona is a partial electrical discharge and its inception depends on the gas density, which is affected by the ambient pressure and temperature. During times of power disruption, it may be necessary to overload certain feeders for a limited time, resulting in conductors running at temperatures above normal. The layer of air adjacent to the conductor is also heated. In this paper the effect of the higher temperature on corona is investigated experimentally. The effect of higher conductor temperatures on the corona inception levels is pointed out in particular.
