Abstract
This paper first analyses the differences between SHD and lower-resolution images in terms of human visual system (HVS) responses to the images spatial frequencies. The coding of SHD images by the Laplacian pyramid and the DCT pyramid using HVS-based quantization is then described, with the test image coded at good quality with 0.5 bpp and perceptually transparent at 1 bpp, viewed at one picture height (1H)
