Abstract
A concept of lateral FEA (with anode in plane of grid) possesses potential advantages for flat panel displays (FPD) due to increased light output and manufacturing simplicity. It has been proposed several years ago [ 11 and even has become a logo of IVMC. But there are some problems which should be investigated for implementation of this concept in real design. In actual FPD with long grid buses a significant portion of electron flow deflected mainly along the grid bus) is landed on grid electrode even in the absence of direct intersection of electron beam with grid and in spite of high anode potential. This can increase power required for control electrodle and reduce anode current.
