Abstract :
Video data is currently one of the mostly used/desired data that circulates today´s digital environment. The paper aims at providing an overview on the emerging trends in the theoretical research that sustains the development of future, more efficient, acquisition, compression and transmission architectures for video. The focus is on delivering a good starting point in what compres-sive sampling and distributed video coding are all about and infer on scenarios that will mostly benefit from their advancement. It is concluded that 3D video and multi-purpose wireless mobile devices are some of the key emerging technologies that are likely to embrace these important theoretical results and transfer them into practice.
