Abstract :
A short summary is given of the associative processor AM/sup 3/ (Associative Microprogrammable Multipurpose Monoprocessor) introduced by M. Darianian et al. (1990). It features a combination of the conventional von Neumann instruction set with a set of associative instructions. A description of the AM/sup 3/ processor architecture and the associative part of the instruction set are outlined. Programming of the associative processor is considered. The associative instructions available have to be supported by a high-level-language interface. The application programmer accesses the hardware through associative objects, which can be manipulated by the standard operators of the language C++. The physical storage device is handled as a virtual associative storage to provide user-transparent administration.<>
