Multi-Image 2D-PAGE Feature Detection

Although there have been many reports on computerised methods of spot detection for 2D-PAGE gel images, these methods examine one gel image at a time. Different spot detection methods are negatively affected by the multitude of different blemishes that may occur in gel images in different ways. We present a method for utilising pairs of gel images which allows improvements in initial spot detection in both images. Testing of our algorithms on 188 pairings of gel images demonstrates automatic improvements on single-image spot-detection with robustness to initial errors and a 97.5% accuracy.
