Abstract
Mathematical morphology is an active research field in image processing. Conventional morphology operates on the entire image in a regular order. In some applications objects of interest only occupy a small portion of the image. The paper proposes directional morphology which only performs on the interesting parts of an image and reacts to certain properties of the region. The operation is carried out in a specific order which is decided dynamically in the process. The new concept leads to an efficient boundary detection algorithm
