Abstract :
It is suggested that if the transputer is to move from its current narrow speed-oriented market niche to service a broader segment of computational needs, the level at which it is programmed must rise. This means that various technical issues characteristic of multi-CPU machines must be made transparent to the user. It is argued that programming languages based on associative addressing for inter-process communication provide the necessary transparency, can be implemented efficiently, and are agreeable to various forseeable extensions and generalization.<>
