Abstract
A simple and effective technique for designing integrated planar Marchand balun is presented in this paper. The approach uses the physical transformer model to replace the lossy coupled transmission lines in a conventional Marchand balun design. As a demonstration and validation of the design approach, a Marchand balun using silicon-based integrated passive device (IPD) technology is carried out at a center frequency of 2.45 GHz. The measured results show low insertion loss and high balance property over a wide bandwidth for the implemented Marchand balun. Comparison among modeled, EM simulated and measured results shows good agreement.
