Abstract :
The performance evaluation of wireless networks for industrial applications represents a relevant issue for the scientific community. One of the most important aspects of these activities is concerned with the validation of the theoretical models derived from accurate analysis of the protocols employed by the networks. In this paper we focus on a typical industrial application of the IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN. Particularly, we consider a master-slave protocol and provide an exhaustive analysis of the polling time of a slave station aimed at understanding the effects of the internal delays of the components employed along with their influence on the overall behavior of the networks.
