Abstract
Urban spatial development is driven by economic, social political, environmental forces. In the meantime, strategic spatial planning becomes more holistic in scope, more strategic and scenario-oriented in content and more interactive and collaborative in nature. In this article, the features and evolving view of strategic spatial planning is described and the application of information support system is identified. Based on the complex system idea, the future-oriented planning approaches are presented. Chinese strategic spatial planning is discussed and it is presented that the application of PSS in plan-making is just at the initiate stage.
