Abstract :
A heuristic data-analysis method is introduced and applied to group electric field amplitude distributions into distinct groups according to their shape. The amplitudes are determined inside rectangular enclosures consisting of apertures, when the enclosures are illuminated by an external electric field. The grouping algorithm compares filtered and scaled histograms of the electric field amplitudes. The goal is to investigate, if the distribution is determined by the enclosure size measured in wavelengths and how sensitive it is against the change of that size. The advantage of the approach used is that it releases the simulation practitioner from the distribution fitting procedure to comparison procedure and no a priori assumptions of the distribution shape are needed. In the further analysis, typical distributions of each group can be compared to probability distributions and possible effects due to the external field inside the enclosure can be predicted by using existing theories.
