Abstract :
An extremely high absorption (up to 800 dB/mm per mol% GeO2 at 242 nm) of germanium oxygen-deficient centres was observed in a new nitrogen-doped germanosilicate glass prepared by the SPCVD method. New absorption and luminescence bands have been found. In this work we present data on the optical properties of bulk samples of germanosilicate glass with nitrogen as a co-dopant. Absorption and luminescence were measured in the UV spectral region. The samples were cut from the fibre preforms prepared by the hydrogen-free SPCVD process
