Abstract
This paper describes an algorithm for the design of an all-optical WDM network based on a multiple ring concept. In this approach, the network problem is solved in two stages, first by ring selection and traffic distribution and then wavelength allocation. In conclusion, the algorithm described can be used for the design of an efficient and reliable multi-wavelength networks using multiple rings. It is also shown that the multiple ring design technique can be very attractive and is considered as a viable design approach for practical network applications
