Abstract
The capabilities and techniques of stereoscopic image generation and display for applications of stereopsis to out-the-window imagery for flight simulation are described. Methods of computing high-quality stereoscopic images with a state-of-the-art computer image generator (CIG) are outlined. The importance of stereopsis in simulator tasks is discussed. An example of the implementation of the stereoscopic techniques presented is given by referring to a software-reconfigurable, stereoscopic flight simulator. Display techniques are discussed. The interface of the CIG to stereoscopic display devices, including innovative reconfigurable image generator hardware and genlock capability, which provide great flexibility and compatibility with a wide range of display devices, is discussed
