  • Abstract
The telephone network could be called the world´s first distributed object computer system. The high reliability, availability and capacity requirements of the telephone network have forced the telecommunications industry to solve a number of key challenges. This paper discusses the applicability of these solutions to other areas of distributed object computing using the concept of “design patterns” as a way of describing how these problems are solved
