  • Abstract
JT-60 (JAERI Tokamak-60) was upgraded to double the plasma current to 6 MA with replacement of the vacuum vessel and the poloidal field coils. For this upgrade, new magnetic sensors were developed. Sixteen pairs of Mirnov coils, and fifteen one-turn loops were installed for plasma control. A Mirnov coil which was made of double Inconel tubes was developed for MHD (magnetohydrodynamic) activity measurement. These tubes work as protection from heat load and as an electrostatic shield, while the coil successfully keeps the frequency response from exceeding 100 kHz by means of a slit on the tubes. The diamagnetic loops were installed with a accuracy of ±2 mm in the poloidal plane inside the vacuum vessel. The Rogowski coil was made of a mineral insulation cable of 0.5-mm diameter and achieved a total linkage area twice that of the original JT-60
