  • Abstract
    The author discusses the issues about changing from analogue to digital CCTV. Digital CCTV can come in many varieties, from low resolution, low frame rate, up to 64 kbit/sec, to broadcast standard video at 155 Mbit/sec. The coding standards used also vary from `lossy´ low bandwidth varieties to no compression raw high quality data transmission. The following digital video compression standards are discussed: H.320, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, JPEG and M-JPEG, and wavelet algorithms. Digital transmission methods are then discussed: asynchronous transfer mode, synchronous digital hierarchy, Ethernet, narrowband ISDN and GSM/UMTS
