Abstract
A rectangular waveguide with a capacitive obstacle is used to show how to formulate the gradual mode-matching method for a practical problem. The numerical difficulties with the Gibbs phenomenon and with edge singularities are resolved by smoothing the magnetic (electric) current source at the point of the singularity. The smoothing eliminates the relative convergence phenomenon, which often occurs in other mode-matching methods. Computed susceptances are presented and compared with previously published data
