Abstract
This paper first introduced the physicochemical properties of diatomite and reviewed its modified approaches and adsorption capacity for various dyes. Then the effects of pH, temperature and other factors on its adsorption performance were discussed. Subsequently, we summarized its adsorption mechanisms and isotherms and it was found that the main mechanism on its adsorption of dyes was physical adsorption: the sorption was in agreement with Langmuir isotherm and Freundich isotherm. Finally, the future possible application of diatomite in the treatment of dye-bearing wastewater was forecasted and some suggestions were put forward as well.
