Abstract
The parallel plate resonator method is a popular means to determine the surface resistance of superconductors at microwave frequencies. In this paper, the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method is used to analyze the resonant frequency and the dielectric and conductor losses within a microwave enclosure containing a parallel plate resonator. The resonator´s losses are examined for the purpose of identifying experimental conditions that lead to inaccurate surface resistance measurements.
