Abstract
In mobile portable radios for police and fire services, the antenna structure should be chosen so as not to interfere with an operator´s duty or not to degrade the antenna performance. However, a conventional whip antenna mounted on the radio body is difficult to meet these requirements and several studies have been reported on a human body mounted antenna for such public service portable radios. This paper presents a new antenna attached on a shoulder with a simple structure in the 350-MHz band. This new shoulder pad planar antenna features its extreme compactness while maintaining a high gain and small impedance changes in the presence of human body.
