Abstract
Frequency converters based on four-wave mixing in semiconductor optical amplifiers are particularly attractive over other methods of frequency conversion. The main concern with this method is based on its supposed small efficiency and, more importantly, on its high signal-to noise ratio degradation. We will show here that it is indeed possible to optimize the device structure to obtain very high efficiency
