Abstract :
The design of robust power system stabilizers (PSS) for a power system represented by a single generator tie line (SGTL) power system is described in this paper. Unlike the conventional PSS design, the proposed method develops a more realistic approach by taking into account various uncertainties involved in power system operation and modelling such as disturbances, modelling errors and changes in the system parameters. This approach provides a technique for determining the PSS transfer function and the washout at the same time. A new robust control technique based on the Nevanlinna-Pick theory is applied which shifts the unstable mechanical poles to the desired locations. The stability limit and the relative stability of the system are also obtained. It is shown that the PSS adequately stabilizes the power system in a wide region of operating points
