Abstract
Presents a new wavelet transform based classified vector quantisation ECG compression system. The use of the wavelet transform facilitates the design of optimal codebooks for various subband components of the signal. The conventional QRS detection process associated with many compression methods is replaced by a simple novel subband energy classification scheme in the design of optimal codebooks. The system codebooks and performance characteristics presented here use data taken from the MIT BIH ECG database.
