Abstract :
The coverage of a DS-CDMA cellular system in unloaded and in loaded cases is considered. The analysis is based on the noise limited range in the uplink. A medium bit rate data service (144 kbit/s) is used as an example service in this paper. A decrease in cell range is calculated when the network load is increased. The effect of base station multiuser detection in increasing the range in the loaded network is analyzed. Base station multiuser detection is also shown to lower the mobile station transmission power in a loaded network thus making uplink range and average mobile transmission power more insensitive to network load. The impact of inter-cell interference at the base station in different propagation environments is also analyzed in this paper. For actual network planning multiuser detection and the propagation environment must be taken into account
