Abstract :
Novel designs of 40 GHz lumped element tunable bandpass filters based on thin film barium strontium titanate (BST) varactors are proposed, fabricated, and measured. The filters are implemented in coplanar version, coplanar waveguide (CPW) lines are shunted with lumped element resonant tanks composed of two series resonators in parallel. The component values of the series resonators are chosen so that transmission zeros are formed on both sides of the center frequency of the filter. This configuration provides fairly good selectivity even for a low order filter. One and two pole filters have been designed. Under 13 V DC bias, the center frequency of the one-pole filter tunes from 40 to 50 GHz. At the center frequency the dissipation is 7.3 dB. The size of the shunt resonance tank (consisting of two series resonators) is 60 mum times 150 mum
