Abstract
This paper addresses the cost and risk factors involved in the selection of on-board power solutions in telecom systems. The solutions considered include standard off-the shelf DC/DC power modules and designs based on discrete components mounted directly on the board. The study includes all major sources of risk and expense for the OEM - design, time to market, manufacturing and test, and field support.
