Abstract
By using the Pade approximation, an efficient method is proposed for the analysis of the optical waveguide discontinuity problem. The eigenvalue problem of the original formulation based on the method-of-lines is replaced by a rational function of the characteristic matrix. The computation time and memory are further reduced by adopting the multistep method.
