Abstract :
In this paper, the use of mobile WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e) as terrestrial multicast/broadcast segment for the delivery of multimedia content to mobile users in DVB-SH networks is investigated. The WiMAX multicast/broadcast services (MBS) protocol stack is defined after a brief description of DVB-SH system specifications and multicast/broadcast services in WiMAX. Consequently, the symbiotic mobile WiMAX and DVB-SH architecture is presented and key issues are listed. A modified MBS protocol stack and the functional enhancements for the WiMAX MBS are described for better provisioning of DV-BSH services via mobile WiMAX where satellite coverage is not available.
