Abstract
The robot vision system VIRO is presented in a special application for flexible part recognition and precise gauging. The shape variation of the parts can be nearly infinite, but the valid shapes can be described by several general constraints. A rule-based system for part recognition is developed. To achieve the necessary precision in spite of large part dimensions, a two-stage measuring cascade with an adapted spatial resolution has been developed. The precision achieved by this principle is discussed
