Abstract
Starting in the fall of 1996, the author offered one Web-based section of the CS1 computer science course each semester. His objective was to provide distance-learning students access to CS1. He planned for the course to be presented asynchronously with students working at their own pace in order to be finished by the end of the semester. His experiences of teaching the CS1 course via the Internet are described in this paper
