Resource-based cities occupy a prominent position in the process of industrialization and urbanization in China. After the long-term development, most resource-based cities are faced with the situation that their resources are decreasing and exhausted. In the period of post-resource economy, the value of natural resources must be compensated reasonably to achieve sustainable development. This paper analyzes the prominent characteristics of resource-based cities in the period of post-resource economy and expounds the necessity of compensation. On this basis, the paper, from the perspectives of government, society, enterprise and legal system, puts forward the relevant suggestions on improving the compensation system in the period of post-resource economy.
