Grain production is the most important supply source of grain. Measuring and analyzing the efficiency of grain production is helpful for policy makers take proper measures to improve grain production performance in the future. This paper uses data envelopment analysis to evaluate the efficiencies of grain production in China from 2005 to 2009. Results show that both the technical efficiency and pure technical efficiency of grain production system have the potential to improve, grain production core areas have higher technical efficiency and pure technical efficiency than other areas, and we should change our grain production mode from intensively using modern inputs to enhancing technological progress.
