Abstract :
A novel technique to detect the motion of a beacon, i.e., moving station, using a single base station (BS) is demonstrated. The beacon is controlled by a free running crystal oscillator with a random offset error in the range of 2 ppm. The detection principle is based on the estimator correlator (EC) which accounts for the correlation properties of the beacon signal. The real data is collected from a network based wireless location system in a multipath environment. The results are illustrated by comparing receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves in different scenarios. It is shown that the ROC performance improves further when two BSs are used simultaneously. A final evaluation provides successfully detected motion of a beacon based on a single BS.
