Abstract :
We report preliminary results of a cw pumped Nd3+ all-fiber passive Q-switched (PQS) laser, using a Cr4+ doped silica fiber as a saturable absorber. We believe that Cr4+ and other transition metal-doped saturable absorber fibers will allow the development of efficient and powerful all-fiber PQS lasers. By optimizing the fibers, the cavity and the pumping regime, many pulsed regimes, required for specific applications, can be achieved.
