Abstract :
Switch mode rectifier (SMR) is widely used in uninterruptible power supplies, SMPS, traction drives etc. Use of fast switching semiconductor devices and implementation of efficient switching techniques increase an efficiency of these uncontrolled converters. Hysteresis current control (HCC) technique is mostly used because of its simplicity, easy implementation and high performance. This paper discusses the four HCC switching techniques used for SMR viz. absolute hysteresis band control (tech-1), constant percentage hysteresis band control (tech-2), bang bang hysteresis band control (tech-3) and multichannel hysteresis band control (tech-1). The comparative evaluation of these four techniques with respect to switching frequency variation, hysteresis variation, boost inductor variation, harmonic contents etc, is provided. Simulated results are well supported by experimental results for each given HCC technique
