Abstract
We report on the development of various thermo-optic (TO) modulators in planar silica designed for use as a modular integrated optical (IO) component for optical sensor and telecommunication systems. The TO phase shifter can also be configured for use as a multi/demultiplexer in video conferencing where an ultrafast response is not required. Robust IO components offer increased performance and functionality in a compact mass producible format compared to current fibre optic devices
