Abstract
Laplace´s equation for the scalar magnetic potential in a cylindrically layered medium is solved for the case of a transversely uniform external field. Coefficients in the cylindrical harmonic expansion of the potential are governed by a set of linear equations for the N-layered inhomogeneity. In addition to verification that magnetostatic shielding is accomplished via a large volume of high-permeability materials, this simple boundary value problem is useful as a teaching tool in electromagnetics courses
