Abstract
This paper discusses mobility support and service portability between different mobile systems. The IWF (interworking function), which deals with signaling protocol and user information conversion, is a promising approach for inter-system roaming. The required capabilities, configuration and procedures are described for the case of GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) and PDC (Personal Digital Cellular). The paper concludes that the IWF can support both inter-system mobility and service portability
