Abstract
This paper deals with the analysis of channel holding time statistics in cellular mobile networks. The salient feature is that the analysis accounts also for handover initiation. For mobile terminals travelling in a lineal array of cells, the channel releasing rate is characterized in terms of the call termination rate and the crossing rate of the hysteresis band in handover initiation. For a given mobile speed, it is seen that the probability density function of the channel holding time is well fitted by a negative exponential model. Moreover, as one should expect, the mean channel holding time is quite sensitive to handover initiation parameters, namely averaging window length and hysteresis margin. Numerical results are provided and discussed, as obtained from the model, and compared to those obtained by simulation
