  • Abstract
Digital storage media-command and control (DSM-CC) is a set of protocols for the delivery of multimedia services over multi-technology networks. The user-to-network part is a session control protocol that is designed to decouple the high-level request for network resources from the underlying transport and switching technology. We describe a set session control protocols using an expanded generic DSM-CC reference model. A session between a client and a server is carried over a multi-technology network consisting of connected subnetworks. The network provides the interworking between these subnetworks on a session-by-session basis, and is responsible for establishing the necessary resources and communicating the resulting description of these resources to the ends of the session. The application of the proposed model to a network consisting of a broadband ATM core network and a generic access network is also discussed
