Abstract :
Emission of light from within a layered structure is limited to a significant extent by the nonradiative decay of excitons when they lose their energy to SP (surface plasmon) modes associated with the metal/dielectric interfaces in the structure. In this paper we investigate how the photoluminescence (PL) emission from an Alq3 (aluminium tris-8 hydroxoquinaline) film within such a structure varies as the thickness, d, of the top metal contact is varied.
