Abstract :
The development of distributed simulation systems is a very complex process which is made even more difficult by the interactions between the mathematical models and their execution environments. In order to simplify the development process, nine characteristics of models and four characteristics of execution environments were identified which are independent of the specific functions and applications with which they are associated. The interactions of these characteristics were then examined for distributed models and execution environments, and eight model constraints and four environment constraints were derived which must be met to avoid the introduction of artifacts into the simulation results
