Abstract
Mobile users want to move freely across various wireless networks continuing their on-going services. The vertical handover enables this service continuity and seamless mobility, but it requires fast and efficient handover control. Also, for a user equipment to support various wireless technologies, an open platform concept needs to be developed. In this paper, we introduce our vertical handover platform for 3G LTE and WLAN handover testbed using mobile terminal over applying the open API. The vertical handover platform recognizes the individual network such as WLAN and 3G LTE and is dynamically used in the multimode reconstructing devices/resources of the terminal according to the network selection standard as the terminal platform for the handover support of an internetworking. We verify the proposed vertical handover platform on our 3G LTE test-bed. Our platform provides the transparency about the multiple network interface for upper service elements of mobile terminal and guarantees the reuse of the terminal protocol and resource element, an expandability, and a portability.
