Abstract :
Protective systems are essential for the safe operation of electrical power systems. The correct operation of a protection relay needs to be verified during its lifecycle, through production, to on-site commissioning and periodic maintenance. This paper presents an application designed to simulate the substation and power system protection of CEMIG GT in Brazil by means of a virtual reality environment. This application is built into a complex computer system composed of the actual substation control e protection system, and the functional system which simulates the electrical behavior of the substation, the protection power system and the power device. Each of the sub-station components has been reproduced in the virtual reality model, including the behavior laws associated with it, so the complete functionality of the sub-station can be simulated using Virtual Reality System to train technical personnel associated with the manual operation of electrical substations protection equipment..
