Abstract
A shape analysis method for target images is presented. It can be used for aimpoint selection in missile homing. The method is based on the discrete medial line transformation. The medial lines which describe the skeleton of the target image are extracted, so that the exact graph description of the target image shape can be achieved. The most effective connection part of the branches of the target can be easily found from the graph, and it is taken as the aimpoint. Some applications of the method are suggested and simulation experiment results are presented. It is concluded that the method presented can select the key part of the target and has the ability of automatic analysis of target shape. The accuracy of the result is corrupted by the overlaying or improper segmenting of the target image
